Tammy Roosa's Coursework
Fall 2011
ED-800 Concepts of Educational Inquiry Instructor: S.Weiland The purpose of this class is an introduction to different types of teaching philosophies. We were also asked to explore our philosophy on technology in the classroom. During this course we were asked to describe our learning style and how it applies to technology. Here is an example of the course work that I submitted, My Learning Plan, describing my beliefs on how I learn and how it applies to the classroom. TE 831 Teaching School Subject Matter with Technology Instructor: A. Horton Using multimedia to enhance learning is something that most teachers strive to utilize more in their classrooms. This course guided us through different types of technology to explore while working in the classroom. We investigated the use of various electronic resources such as the internet, YouTube videos, and multimedia documents to help support learning. I designed a project where students could utilize the internet entirely through the process. It is designed so that students can work in it independently. To view my projects please visit my Showcase page. Spring 2012 TE 846 Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners Instructor: G. Troia This class was designed to explore ways to improve struggling student’s success in the classroom. Not only did we look into the “who” was struggling but the "why" as well. Identify the why a student is struggling can at times be the most difficult part in working with student. Usually once we recognize why the student struggles it makes addressing the problem that much easier. In this class I observed two students and how they struggle with literacy across the curriculum. I have attached my findings in this Vocabulary Case Study. TE 861A Teaching Science for Understanding Instructor: W.Struck During this course we focused on not only teaching science content but developing ways to check that students have an understanding of it as well. It is extremely important that students do more than simply memorizing facts long enough to complete a formative assessment. The purpose of teaching is hoping that students will gain a full understanding of the content and be able to transfer to their knowledge base to many different situations. Summer 2012 CEP-850 Technology and Literacy for Students with Mild Disabilities Instructor: Mei Shen The purpose of this class is to help support those students that struggle with literacy through the use of technology. We utilized many different technology-based applications that were extremely practical and easy to use in the classroom. The main purpose of these tools is that they are designed so that students can work on them independently. In my final project, Technology and Literacy, I discuss different types of tools that would be helpful to utilize in any classroom. CEP 883 Psychology of Classroom Discipline Instructor: A.Fedewa,E.Oka This course had us focus on classroom management styles. We explored many different strategies and approaches throughout the course. While exploring these different methods we worked on discovering what worked best in our own classroom. Here is the word document of my presentation to the parents. Please visit my Showcase page to view the actual PowerPoint I created while completing this course. I have also provided a written description of the slide show, Parent Presentation. Fall 2012 CEP 802 Developing Positive Attitudes Toward Learning Instructor: L.Benson,E.Oka The goal of this course was to learn new ways to motivate students. Throughout this course we learned how to analyze the motivational issues teachers face in our classrooms; both as a whole and as individual students. Once these issues were identified and addressed we explored strategies to help promote increased learning. During this course I was able to create a motivational study on a student named Sarah. While working on this project I realized that all of my students could benefit from adding a few motivationally strategies in the classroom. TE 855 Teaching School Mathematics Instructor: M.Weiss This course explored ways to ensure that students were learning math for understanding. In the past students were simply asked to utilize formulas to solve different types of problems. This course asked us to look further into not only what they were learning but if they truly understood the content. Students do not see that reading comprehension and math skills are related to each other. While taking this class created a project, Mathematics and Reading Comprehension that would give students tools to not only understand the importance of reading comprehension but utilizes skills that would help improve their mathematical understanding. Spring 2013 CEP 805 Learning Mathematics with Technology Instructor: R.Putnam The course will explore math content. We will explore Principles and Standards for School Mathematics and review different strategies. Along with reviewing this text we will analyze the Common Core Standards and how they relate to our classrooms. ED 870 Capstone Seminar Instructor: M.Koehler This purpose of this course is designed to give an overview of my entire masters program. Here we will display course work, beliefs about teaching, and summarizes what we have taken away from the Masters program. |
